Your email account is more important than most people realize.
It’s the gateway to banking, passwords, subscriptions, and even password resets.
If a scammer gets access to your email, quick action matters.
🗓️ Tips & Tricks will now be posted once a week — every Monday.
Short, practical, and worth your time. 👍
🚨 1. Change Your Email Password Immediately
Do this first — before anything else.
👉 Create a strong, unique password
👉 Do NOT reuse an old one
If you reuse passwords, change those accounts too.
🔐 2. Turn On Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
If it’s not already enabled, turn it on now.
This adds a second layer of protection so even if someone has your password, they can’t get in.
📧 3. Check Account Recovery Settings
Scammers often change:
• Recovery email
• Phone number
• Security questions
👉 Go to your email account settings and confirm they’re still yours.
💳 4. Check Financial & Shopping Accounts
Since email controls password resets, check:
• Banking logins
• Amazon / online shopping
• PayPal / Venmo
• Social media
Look for password change notifications or suspicious activity.
📨 5. Look for Forwarding Rules
Scammers sometimes create hidden rules to:
• Auto-forward your email
• Hide messages from banks
• Delete security alerts
👉 Check your email settings for forwarding rules or filters you didn’t create
🛑 PRO Tip From Our Shop Tech Mya 👩💻
Never allow remote access to unknown people.
If someone calls claiming to be:
• Microsoft
• Your bank
• “Tech support”
• Amazon fraud department
And asks you to install software or give them access — hang up immediately.
Legitimate companies do NOT cold-call and ask to remote into your computer.
💡 Extra Tip for Businesses
Business email compromise is one of the most common attacks we see.
One compromised email account can lead to:
• Fake invoice scams
• Wire fraud
• Internal phishing
• Payroll redirection
Multi-factor authentication and monitoring are not optional anymore.
